About us

CLIO was founded on a simple but urgent belief: the stories of older adults are among the most valuable things our society has, and we are losing them at scale.

We are a Budapest-based team of journalists, technologists, and psychologists, brought together by a shared mission to solve a problem too often overlooked.

CLIO was built from the ground up: bootstrapped, tested across five countries, and shaped by the real people whose stories we help preserve.

How we work

Four principles. Held without exception.

01

Human first, AI second.

Our interviewers bring warmth and depth no technology can replace — AI ensures structure, consistency, and quality.

02

Dignity in every detail.

We work with older adults in sensitive environments. Respect, discretion, and genuine attentiveness are not optional — they are the foundation of everything we do.

03

Scale without compromise.

Quality must remain consistent whether we deliver 10 memoirs or 10,000. We built our own narrative AI because generic tools fall short of the standard every life story deserves.

04

Impact over optics.

We measure success by the people who feel heard, the families who reconnect, and the institutions that truly improve wellbeing — not vanity metrics.

Backed by science

Our scientific advisor.

András Horváth M.D., Ph.D.

Dementia & brain researcher

“Structured life story work can simultaneously support the accessibility of autobiographical memory, the coherence of identity, and the quality of person-centred care. What makes CLIO unique is that it doesn’t try to reconstruct a personal narrative after the fact. It helps preserve it in time, with dignity.”

Dr. Horváth brings scientific rigour to CLIO’s mission, ensuring our approach to life story preservation is grounded in current research on memory, identity, and person-centred care.
